Description
The Design:
The equestrian statue of Union General George Gordon Meade, Commander of the Union Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg, is cast in shadow as the sun rises on the horizon. Meade’s statue, which is located on Cemetery Ridge not far from where his headquarters were located during the battle, portrays the general looking out towards the distant Seminary Ridge and the fields over which Pickett’s Charge crossed on July 3rd.
