Certainly Queen Elizabeth did not celebrate Halloween the way that we do today and the imagery that we often associate with the holiday would probably be unfamiliar to her. However, she was certainly familiar with some of the traditions of the Ancient Celt celebration of Samhain, a night when people dressed up in order to scare away ghosts and spirits, which were preserved as a part of English culture and All Hallow’s Eve.
